Reusable Nappy Week 2023
Reusable Nappy Week is taking place on 24th - 30th April in 2023! We are super excited for this year and have a LOT planned!
What Is Reusable Nappy Week?
Reusable Nappy Week is an international action packed week of awareness raising activities and advocacy for all things reusable nappies. It's a week where the UK's cloth nappy retailers come together to spread awareness of reusable nappies and their many benefits. At The Friendly Eco, we will be running a number of events on the weekends surrounding Reusable Nappy Week, these will all be free to attend. There will of course be a few special offers to look forward to as well!
What Events Are On?
At the Friendly Eco, we will be running a number of events on the weeks surrounding reusable nappy week. We spread it out as we understand that not everyone can make reusable nappy week specifically. You can view our full list of upcoming events here.

Why Choose Reusable Nappies?
- Better For Baby - Reusable nappies are made of breathable, soft and natural fabrics which are gentle on your baby's skin.
- Reduce Waste - Just 20 reusable nappies could replace 4,000 disposable nappies from ending up in landfill! Even one reusable nappy change a day can make a huge difference to your waste and our planet.
- Carbon Savings - You can reduce your baby's nappy carbon footprint by 25% by switching to reusables, and reduce raw materials used by 98%!
- Money Saving - Even with all of these benefits, reusable nappies are almost always cheaper than disposables. You can save even more money by usine your nappies on two or more children!
How Do I Wash Nappies?
The days of boiling and soaking are long gone! Modern washing machines are more than capable of leaving your nappies sparkling white and super hygienic. It's really no more effort than a clothes wash! And don't worry, the poo doesn't go in the washing machine - there are liners for that.
Simply remove the nappy liner and pop the dirty nappy in a wet bag (a waterproof, smell proof nappy bag) until wash day. When you have enough nappies, pop them in the washing machine on a cold rinse cycle to give them a little rinse out. Once this is done you can top up with baby clothes and stick the whole wash load on a 40 or 60 degree wash with regular powder detergent. Soon your nappies will be clean and ready to dry - either hang out on the line for a beautiful and satisfying nappy line, or tumble dry on low if in a rush. See? No different to your clothes really!

What Do Reusable Nappies Look Like?
Modern reusable nappies come in a few styles to suit a range of lifestyles. From nappies ready-to-go like a disposable, to the traditional terries for those feeling nostalgic, here's a few of the main types:
All In One Nappies
These nappies are as easy as it gets - the full nappy is sewn in and ready to go as soon as it's washed and dry. At change time, just chuck the whole thing in a wet bag until wash day and grab a fresh one - exactly like a disposable but without the waste!

Pocket Nappies
These nappies have an outer shell with a little pocket at the back to stuff a couple of inserts into. Once your nappies are clean and dry, just spend five minutes sat in front of the TV, stuffing the inserts into the outer shells. Your nappies are then ready to go, like an all-in-one but usually faster drying as the parts separate.

All In Two Nappies
The absorbent inserts simply popper in and out of the shell for easy drying when needed, but can stay together for an all-in-one option when in a rush. The best of both worlds! You can usually replace the inserts in the shell a few times before washing the outer shell.

Fitted Nappies
These are the holy grail of night time nappies! Many parents who use disposables in the day will still use fitted reusable nappies at night as they are virtually unmatched in absorbency. Fitted nappies are made of towelling material but sewn into a nappy shape with velcro or popper tabs for easy fastening. Then you just place a nappy wrap over the top and you've got a full night of leak-free dreamy dryness!

Flat Nappies
The traditional terry towels are still around today - but this time with flexible soft outer wraps instead of the old rubber pants. Nappy folds are really simple to learn and you can even batch fold a bunch of terry towels ready for change time. Use a nappy fastener to secure and then place a wrap over the top!
Prefolds are another affordable flat option, simply fold in three and place inside a wrap for a great budget daytime nappy.
